Re: Can't compress because No Title Found

Try ripping to a video file instead of a VIDEO_TS structure with MakeMKV instead. There are other challenges with VIDEO_TS other than just encryption.

The GUI is angry spaghetti people who can't use the CLI; the CLI is a far superior interface.

Re: Total Render Time for a Project

Not just open them, but begin a substantial portion of the encode to see what the actual performance is. And decode the entire source to find out how many frames it is long if you want to do it accurately.

That's a question for the editors you're trying to use. As you found, you can edit them just fine in a text editor.

Re: lossless conversion from VOB to MP4 ...

There's something to distinguish here: Literally lossless, no changes to the video bitstream, and the same size? HB doesn't do that. "Can't see the difference" lossless, perhaps a fraction of the size? HB does that quite well. If you want to prep the video for editing in Premiere, try the ...

Re: x264 to x265 - general advice - RF Value, Filter (Denoise)

If your content is already progressive, the decomb is a pointless slowdown with some risk of misidentifying content. Different series, and even different episodes, are going to vary in bitrate. If you want more consistent bitrates while allowing for some variation in extreme cases, look at what Don ...

Re: What does deinterlace preset EEDI2 do?

Decombing checks for combing; if none is found it doesn't deinterlace the frame, if a little is found it blends, if a lot is found it runs your deinterlacer of choice.

Re: Re-encoding again from variable to constant FR

Sure, you could do that. Pick the same preset you used and pick constant framerate. The quality will be slightly worse due to the reality of lossy encoding.

EEDI2 (Enhanced Edge Directed Interpolation) resizes an image by 2x in the vertical direction by copying the current image to every other line in the resized image and then interpolating the missing field

Re: DONT burn subtitles?

MP4 is the default since it's the most widely supported industry standard. It was standardized before Blu-ray was released. MKV is an anti-standard; there's no consensus, it just works however one guy decided to implement the libraries. Where there's a conflict between the scant documentation and ho...

With generous bframes, the bitrate is going to be minimal.

Re: Reduce/shrink file time of a in video camera stream

You've basically described some aspects of how modern lossy encoding works, and it's also way more complicated than you're imagining. Try the HQ preset for your content resolution and see how you feel about the result. Does it look OK? Is the new size what you wanted? Was the time acceptable? Post b...

avisynth, or maybe ffmpeg, wrapped in a short script is your best option.
