Re: Question regarding handbrake video and audio settings

1. Yes, assuming any reasonably modern playback environment. Some legacy programs/devices have weird constraints and can't cope with VFR. 2. No, but also HB should have no part in extracting audio, since HB always includes video and there are other tools for this. 3. Correct, assuming the source is ...

Re: Converting a DVD of a series to files with forced subtitles.

Configure the subtitle defaults/selection behavior the way you want, save it in a preset, select that preset, and add all titles to queue. Yet another super confusing angry spaghetti part of the GUI that none of the users can figure out. Easier to write a short shell script to iterate through them w...

Re: How do I set colour output to NV12?

Try the Production Standard preset and see if that works for you in Premiere.

If it doesn't, post the encoding log from that attempt.

Re: Very slow encoding - to be expected?

2 year old, 1.9Ghz CPU isn't going to be real speedy in such a thermally constrained environment like a laptop, even if it does have 4 cores.

Re: Before transcoding. Asks me if I want to overwrite the original file. Then gives me a one second new file

Pick a destination filename that is different from your source file name. Otherwise the source is overwritten (as it warns you!) and then there's no more input to read so encoding ends.

Re: .mpeg to .mp4 produces longer file

Yea need the encode log, not just the scan log.

Also I'd suggest ripping with something for that purpose, like MakeMKV, then feeding the video file to HB. Rippers are better with retries and stuff for physical media than HB is.

HB supports subtitle passthrough, so any issue is specific to your situation and you'd need to provide the requisite logs.

Re: i30 to p30 deinterlacing

Enable interlace detection (decomb) and your preferred deinterlacer (mostly speed tradeoffs) when interlacing is found.

If you have sensitivity issues (the classic Family Guy case), you can tweak the interlace detection thresholds, or just disable detection and deinterlace everything.

Re: Decomb Custom syntax

The thresholds are how many samples and such must be identified to be combed in order for the frame to be treated as such. The block sizes determine how the frame is split up into chunks for analysis. Well, I guess I've been naively thinking that countering combing is strictly a mechanical process,...

Re: How to get the full options Handbrakes uses to encode a DVD ?

If you can't follow the CLI docs, you can set up a GUI preset, export it, and then import the preset into the CLI. Of course you're limited to GUI options this way.

Re: Decomb Custom syntax

So many words spilled on the page, so little accomplished.

Regarding the options you're asking about, have you perused the decomb sourcecode yet? It should be readily apparent they're EEDI options, which will easily lead you to the EEDI documentation via Google.

Re: 'Interlace Detection' & 'Interlace'

Deinterlace is absolutely not moot when you have detelecine on, because content can be a mix of telecined and interlaced. And you may as well decomb because there can be some clean frames in there too.

Re: Custom presets don't apply to all titles when "add all to queue"

Are you setting the audio defaults/selection settings, or just one-off encode settings before saving?

Are you selecting the preset before adding all titles to queue?

Re: 'Interlace Detection' & 'Interlace'

Without interlace detection, all frames are deinterlaced. Did you mean to write: "Without interlace detection, all frames are not deinterlaced"? If interlaced detection filter is not enabled and deinterlace filter is enabled, the deinterlace filter is applied to all frames. I would never do that. I...

No, if you have deinterlace default without interlace detection, all frames are deinterlaced.
