With upcoming changes to data protection and privacy laws in Europe coming into effect soon, we thought this would be a good time to remind everyone that we do have a privacy policy.
This applies to all users and visitors world-wide.

We have made a few changes to the language to make it clearer in relation to this new regulation but fundamentally, the terms and your rights are unchanged.

If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask in the General Forum

Re: Possible to limit thread usage?

You can limit the video encoder threads in the advanced encoder options.

Other than that, there are a number of threads you can't control, but they won't cause the problem you're describing.

Handbrake seems to be optimized to max out at six CPUs, according to various independent tests I read online.
LOL, that's some rich BS.

Certain sources and settings may not scale well beyond 6 CPUs, but HB is optimized for many many more on appropriate encodes.

Re: Trying to understand RF and bitrate

If bitrate doesn't help determine quality, how does one objectively measure the quality of a video file? Is it more a subjective thing? Real video quality is subjective. There are some objective metrics, like PSNR or SSIM, but if you optimize for them you will produce worse looking video at the sam...

Re: ATV 4K H.264 Baseline Profile Preset - Which one is correct?

Level 4.0 Profile High allows for 25Mbps; HB chooses to implement this averaged over a 1s period, so in sub-second slices you may see bitrates exceeding 25Mbps.

Re: Question about Handbrake's "Encoder Preset"

It will be better or smaller, maybe a bit of both.

It's better because of more analysis and math done up front in the encoding process.

Best practice is to use an app intended for the purpose of ripping protected disks, HB plus third party hacks isn't great.

Re: What is prefarable?

Few of the users here understand the encoders well enough to provide useful insight into specific settings. doom9 would probably be the place for it. The reality is that the preset and tune system is the best practice for most users. Other than that the encoder is quite advanced for doing the right ...

Move it up to 23 and see if you can discern a difference. Should ~halve your bitrate.

Corrupted input, different decoders may handle differently.

Try a nightly with ffmpeg to see if it handles any better than the old libav.

Get the 1080, keep it 1080, and use a reasonable quality target (like an RF in the low 20s).
