Re: Can't rip blurays with Catalina

Well I installed 1.2.0 which I had archived on my older machine, and lo and behold that solved the issue.

I was using version 1.2.0

So perhaps this is the issue?

Re: Can't rip blurays with Catalina

Any idea why this problem would present itself with Catalina? I've been running it the old way on other machines (none of which have Catalina) in the past and had no issues whatsoever. Is it because of a more recent change with the new OS?

My old MacBook Pro and Mac Pro have no issues whatsoever...

Can't rip blurays with Catalina

Description of problem or question: So I'm about to lose my damn mind. I got a new Mac and started setting it up to rip blu-rays. I went through my usual process from the article here: https://sixcolors.com/post/2015/01/how-i-rip-dvds-and-blu-rays/ No matter what I do however Handbrake refuses to r...

Re: Constant Quality recommendation for Simpson's series?

I just did the seasons 1 through 13 of the Simpsons with these settings: -f mp4 -X 720 --loose-anamorphic --detelecine --decomb -e x264 -q 22 -a 1 -E faac -6 dpl2 -R 48 -B 160 -D 1.5 -m -x cabac=0:ref=2:me=umh:bframes=0:weightp=0:8x8dct=0:trellis=0:subq=6 -v 1 Largest file size was 328MB. Re: Encoding a .ts file into something more useful?

Okay one last question - swear its the last this time... For the cropping I'm a little confused as to what I should go about doing - I take it I can turn anamorphic off since its going to be a square image? Also, what frame size should I be aiming for - 960x720? The image frame jumps around on a lot...

Re: Encoding a .ts file into something more useful?

Awesome. Thanks for the tips! One last question - there are 3 (more or less identical) audio tracks: MPEG Audio at 256kbs, a second MPEG Audio at 192kbs and a AC-3 Audio track at 448kbs. Which would be the best one to use as my source audio. I'm guessing AC-3 since it's a higher bitrate but I dont k...

Encoding a .ts file into something more useful?

o I recently downloaded a HD broadcast rip of a recent TV broadcast of a concert from Germany. The file itself came in as a .ts file. The file itself will play fine in Movist or VLC or what have you, but it's a bit of a hassle to work with. So I was thinking about perhaps making it into a more mac f...

Re: Best way to rip

Generally speaking, I'd prefer the ones later in the thread as they've been tuned versus current code - I'd take a look at dynaflash's most recent settings. Thank you! I will do that! So just to be clear we're talking about this post specifically: http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7...

Re: Best way to rip

With the current developer snapshots and the upcoming 0.9.4 release, the majority of the built in presets utilise constant quality encoding so in theory your encodes should appear very similar regardless of the preset used. Where you'll need to make a decision is in regard to encode speed vs. encod...

Re: Film vs Universal -- m4v vs MKV

It all depends on what you (and you friend) are planning on playing these encodes back on... I'd also recommend using the current development snapshot as there were issues with the Film preset in 0.9.3 which caused some bloating in filesize. just downloaded the snapshot from that link and it looks ...

Re: Best settings for Concerts

one last question: deinterlace vs decomb?
The concert has LOTS of movement so I'm not sure what would be wiser? Decomb (default) or deinterlace (on the slowest setting to ensure best quality).

Best settings for Concerts

So I just ripped my Madonna concert DVD as universal (my standard go-to preset) and was shocked to see that the filesize was over 3gb. The show is only 2 hours and Vertigo (which clocks in at nearly 2.5 hours) was only 1.3 gb or therebouts. So... what are some of the best settings for a concert? I u...

Film vs Universal -- m4v vs MKV

Hi everyone! So recently I discovered the great app Plex which makes watching all those MKV files I've been downloading a snap! Last night I decided to take Handbrake for a whirl to copy some of these Alfred Hitchcock movies for a friend since we're studying him in class and she's now getting quite ...

Re: Standards Conversion for final DVD output?

well i did the "non-deinterlace" method last night. everything looked great other than the lines (the field combing) on the video. Not sure if when I converted to a DVD file and burned to DVD if they'd still be present... but I'm doing a second conversion now WITH Deinterlace turned on jus...

Re: Standards Conversion for final DVD output?

Okay thanks for the suggestion. I had heard lots of good things about streamclip but no one even mentioned WHAT to export as (they all just said "export with mpeg streamclip"). I gotta say that Handbrake does do a PHENOMENAL job though.

Standards Conversion for final DVD output?

Okay so this ones going to sound weird but hear me out. I have this concert DVD that's in the PAL format (recorded by a friend over in the UK off a TV broadcast then sent to me). Problem is I can't play a PAL DVD. So I thought perhaps trying to do a framerate conversion with Handbrake. So I chose th...

Re: Anything for better Xvid encoding from DVD

Sorry to bump this topic but I too have a similar issue and was just wondering if anyone has found a good solution for making Xvid on the Mac... Personally I have no real qualms about the x264 codec (the filesizes are a bit bigger, but the quality is great) but Xvid is a lot easier for most of my fr...

"Universal" setting crashes Quicktime

Hey everyone, so here's a weird problem I've had as of late. I just recently updated to the latest version and did some poking around and found out that people highly recommended the universal setting for apple devices so it would play on everything. Great. However I noticed one small problem - all ...
