Trouble converting movie

Hi folks, I've been using Handbrake successfully to convert various DVD's I own into M4V files. I generally rip to ISO using Anydvd but I ripped this particular film to folder format. I can use VLC media player to watch the source file/folder perfectly well but when I seem to be having issues viewin...

Re: AppleTV Substitute

Wondering about this myself... I have a 1st gen ATV and I would like something that supports the meta data in an mp4 or mkv file as well as any subtitles I add. Thinking the next gen of google tv might be the ticket.

Re: sub-HD resolution sweet spots ...

For what its worth, I compared: * dvd movie on rather well rated upscaling dvd player on 60" DLP TV * dvd converted to mp4 via handbrake (via laptop and via appletv ver 1) * same movie in HD format from itunes store (also via laptop and via appletv) I didn't notice any real differences myself. ...

Re: Hard and Soft Subtitles Guide

Hi, I have a question for the group. I am using a DVD as my movie source I am selecting the closed caption subtitle track I did one test with "burned in = yes" and one test with "burned in = no". In each test: VLC plays fine (the CC area is 2 lines high) Quicktime looks bunched u...

Re: transcode iso files

If that's your only requirement, can you use vlc player for ipad to play the iso file? should work I think.

If you want to convert them to mp4, I'm sure someone has a batch file thing around here somewhere.

MetaX is great too -- if someone contributed to the project, you can just download it and update your file with the info.

It might be worth waiting a week or so for people to get their hands on the new appletv and play around with the settings.

Re: Best Ripper Software...Suggestions?

Without going into all the details behind it: Option 1: Buy anydvd from slysoft to copy the dvd to your PC / Media Drive. Most media players on the market can play the ripped file. No quality loss. Option 2: Follow Option 1, then use handbrake to convert your DVD to MP4. I see roughly an 80% size re...

If the mp4 file is less than 4 gigs, I don't think you need to flag it with the large file size option

Re: Speed Quality Size... Pick Two

What device are you using to play the files back on? What size screen? Those are important factors too.

I was using the high profile preset which was great but I switched over to the appletv preset with the changes by dynaflash in the appletv preset thread.

Jazzman's -- very nice! What devices are you using as media extenders/players/etc (like appletv or popcorn hour, etc)?

Re: Use same size as source

What are looking to playing the resulting files on? What size screen? what type? I'm converting my dvd collection to mp4's using the high profile setting and the quality appears to as good as the dvd and the file is 70% smaller. Looks great on my big screen tv too -- I don't even notice a difference...
