I ran into a similar problem with the U.S. version last night. We're running Ubuntu & Mint Linux, not Windows. The correct title is #60. All Handbrake can see (tried it on two different computers) is a handful of tracks. 96 thru 99, or something like that.

Re: Killing Them Softly
I just wanted to post back with the rest of the story. Over the course of the next few weeks I tried to encode two more DVD's. They both failed, but the failures weren't the same. One time Handbrake said it couldn't find the destination folder. The other time Handbrake could only identify 9 of the 9...

Re: Killing Them Softly
You guys want them just tossed on here, right? Not wrapped in the code window? See those "mpeg2 tag botch" messages? There were thousands and thousands of them, so I deleted most, keeping just a couple on either side of any lines of text that weren't about botched tags. Handbrake Version: ...

Re: Killing Them Softly
Oh, I'm sorry, I should have included some basic info. I'm using an HP dc7800, running Lubuntu. This PC is used almost exclusively for Handbrake encodes once or twice a week. I'm not an expert on Handbrake settings, but have some seat time with it and never seen anything like what happened with this...

Has anyone tried encoding the above movie? Brad Pitt's in it. I tried twice. Handbrake's preview window looks all pixelated and blotchy, like a badly scratched disc, instead of giving the usual view of a frame partway into the movie. I ran the encode anyway. The resulting .mkv played fine for a few ...

Re: Laptop with Ubuntu 11.10 Shutting Down at 50% Encoding
I mentioned using a laptop for Handbrake a year or two ago on these forums. Some of the folks here warned I could burn the poor thing up. So I quit using the lappy. If you have no alternative, at least raise the laptop up on some wood blocks and stick a small fan underneath (it'll also have to be ra...

Ubuntu 10.04 Single Title
I ran into some confusion on this issue, so I'm posting a guide. Even then, there's a part in here that I'm not sure about. I'll explain that when we get there. So, first off, I'll assume you have a home theater. Put the DVD into your home theater player and get to the main feature. Your remote shou...

Re: Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol shuts HB down
I will have to try it again. I'm embarrassed to admit that it took external pressure to goad me into fumbling around long enough to figure out how the Single Title process had changed. So MI-GP should go now. I pm'ed one of the active members asking if it would be OK if I submitted some screenshots ...

Re: Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol shuts HB down
OK, I don't live and breathe this stuff, so thanks for not beating me too badly. I knew about Rodeo's sticky for finding the correct title. A coupla months ago when running Update Manager on the Ubuntu 10.04 PC HB did an update. I'm not set up to get nightly builds, just major updates. After that up...

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol shuts HB down
Although I'm still an amateur about HB's inner workings, I've used two or three different versions of HB to rip at least a hundred DVD's over the last few years. Using 4591svn, Ubuntu 10.04 on a PC that hardly gets used for anything other than Handbrake. I click "File", then click on "...

Sheesh, I didn't know there was an option to pick just one title!
Will try your tip and report back.

Sorry, Rodeo -
I was in a hurry. We played the movie on our home theater DVD player. When we finally got to the movie, the player said the main title was number 14 out of 95.

Re: Salt failing to rip
I got to 90 of 95. Our DVD player said the main title was 14 (95). Have two PC's, one running Ubuntu 9.04 & the other running 10.04. Both behaved identically. Stalled at 90 indefinitely.

Re: AC3 passthru is picked up as AAC
OK, I'll try that. I tried removing the AAC track before starting the remux process yesterday. The result was a small file (about 1/10th original size) that was unplayable in VLC. Thanks for link to WD forum. Will try that out too. EDIT 11-6-2010 The WD forum instructions to get into "Options&q...

Re: AC3 passthru is picked up as AAC
Hey, guys, thanks very much for the help. I grabbed a DVD off the shelf and fired up Handbrake. The only thing I did different was to highlight the AAC track and click the "minus" sign. The AAC track disappeared. Did the rip. Saved to external. Started up WD Live, got Dolby Digital. So I'v...

Re: AC3 passthru is picked up as AAC
Thanks for the reply. I went immediately to your trac link. It's just that I don't understand how to access the encode log. If I got to my home folder, there's nothing - wait, wait, back up the truck. This is a good indication of my Linux-fu or lack thereof. A faint bit of data rattled to the fronta...

Re: AC3 passthru is picked up as AAC
All rips have been done in High Profile. Had no idea there was another log. Just have to figure out how to get to it. Don't see anything in /home folder. Must be CLI? I've done some work in terminal but not much. This is where someone like mduell takes the time and effort to say something nice but n...

Re: Popular playback devices
I bought a WD TV Live at our local Staples a day ago. They were on the clearance table. $54. I'm almost ecstatic. It plays .mkv's ripped at the Handbrake High Profile default settings. Our ancient Onkyo receiver picks up the audio Toslink as Dolby Digital. That's a big plus for two reasons. Obvious ...

Re: 0.9.4 on Ubuntu 10.04, Fedora 13 or GTK > 2.19 - README
I installed Handbrake from PPA about a week ago to a laptop that had been running Ubuntu 9.04 and HB without issues. The laptop is now running 10.04. I installed libdvdread4. Handbrake would read the DVD, pick a title, then the "Picture", "Video", and "Audio" tabs would...

Re: Popular playback devices
I can turn our .mp4's into mkv's?? OK, will have to check out the application you mention. Although Windows is available as a dual-boot, we're basically moving on to Linux. Using Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10 on the main PC, laptop, and the primitive Handbrake rip player mentioned in first post. Of course, it...

Good day to everyone! Have been ripping DVD's w/ Handbrake for a year or two now. Since I don't understand all the options, have just been using the "High Profile" setting with AC3 pass-thru on audio (resulting in mp4 files) or clicking to .mkv and leaving everything else the same. Since H...

Re: Chapters are scrambled
If you fire up Handbrake and it sees 99 titles, that appears to be a sure sign you've run into this relatively recent roadblock.
I'm embarrassed to admit I asked about it in the *nix forum without doing my homework.

Has anyone tried to rip "UP"?
I think this is the first time this has happened to me. Not absolutely sure, but took a quick look at several other rips. The new Pixar film "UP" - the tracks are out of order. The finished file starts partway into the movie, skips around some, goes to the ending credits, then back to the ...
