Re: Controlling Audio and Forced Subs from CLI

Code: Select all

--preset="HQ 1080p30 Surround"
…will probably work more reliably.

Re: MKV Passthru ?

Yeah, HB's underlying infrastructure is entirely built around video re-encoding -- you can pass some audio formats through but video passthrough would require a major rewrite.

And the workaround with mkvtoolnix is acceptable until handbrake fixes the audio issue.
So you're saying the workflow "source (Mkvtoolnix) MKV (HandBrake) destination" works fine?

Re: UHD HDR: no compatibility of HandBrake encode, muxing issue?

Nah, at this point I don't have any requests that I couldn't check myself -- whether I have time to test the extradata is another matter though.

Other developers may have other ideas though.

Re: UHD HDR: no compatibility of HandBrake encode, muxing issue?

Hmm, this encode has many differences compared to the non-working one: level 5.1 -> 5.0 tier high -> main hrd -> no-hrd vbv -> no restrictions (probably the result of not specifying a level too) custom master display coefficients -> default If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably indeed something i...

1) You don't need a "UHD" Bluray drive, just a Bluray drive.
It must be able to read 66 and 100 GB discs, however -- not any drive will do.

Re: Handbrake encode after Adobe Premier

So yes, you should use Premiere to encode the AAC, and use AAC Passthru in HandBrake. Also, for better video quality, you should use an intermediate codec in Premiere, such as ProRes, instead of H.264, since you'll re-encode the video to H.264 in HandBrake. The temp files will be huge, but you'll ev...

Yes, our AAC encoder is crap. Unless you use HandBrake for Mac, which can use Apple's AAC encoder (because it ships as part of the operating system).

What happens if you remux the source file with Mkvtoolnix and then encode it with HandBrake, does the audio still sutter?

Also, you're saying the video is fine in the above encode?

I suspect this might be an issue, your source may have errors in it, can you re-acquire it?

I downloaded HandBrake today and I've been trying to convert my video file from MKV to MP4, but I've been encountering some errors.
Thanks for the log, but there are no errors in it that I can see, so you'll have to be more specific about your issues please.

Re: Converting file to play on a DVD player!

DVD video is encoded in MPEG2, which is not particular efficient. If your video is not in MPEG2, it will need to be converted, which Toast should do as part of the authoring process. That said, handbrake CAN do MPEG2 video All MPEG-2 Video isn't necessarily DVD-compliant (just like not all H.264 is...

Re: Retrive FFmpeg command line used from version 1.0.7

It was a HandBrakeCLI command -- HandBrake doesn't use ffmpeg.

The latest version of the HandBrake graphical interface no longer uses HandBrakeCLI (instead, it uses libhb directly), so it no longer constructs a command for it.

The dvd that I'd like to rip to my computer has sporadic subtitles that show up on screen for portions of the movie that are in a foreign language. HandBrake 1.0 has a new default preset. You should make your own preset that doesn't limit the output resolution to 1080p, or use one of the other built-in presets.

Re: Best settings for auto-crop *only* on MKV files?

I guess if every frame were encoded in its entirety instead of being divided into key frames and their deltas then it would be possible to just load frame, crop it, and write that frame to the output stream. But that's a pipe dream. Well, each cropped frame would have to be re-encoded regardless. I...
