Re: What do encoder presets do for CQ = 0 ??

RF 0 only gives you lossless if: - you're using an 8-bit H.264 encoder - encoder preset is set to auto or another lossless-compatible profile Our profile sanitizer resets the RF to 1 when the selected profile isn't lossless-compatible, and you'll get a warning in the log: "apply_h264_profile [warnin...

All drivers released after version 4771 directly caused failures, i.e. conversion of any video failed approx in the middle of the process.
With version 4944, I did not see any single failure for 4 videos.
Good to know, thanks!

Not sure, you'd have to try. Unfortunately I'm not the expert when it comes to this code, John is.

Re: Odd behaviour in output after frame-accurate trim

Maybe the TrueHD frames are pretty long? Can't remember its duration off the top of my head. HandBrake can't split audio frames either, and there's no guarantee that each video frame and audio frame will end with the exact same timestamp.

Feels like a rushed driver to me. Should probably have been released a day later, but my guess is the project manager had a Valentine's Date this year :D

Re: Slow encode... (or do I just need a new computer?)

I have an old 15" Sandy Bridge MacBook Pro (same generation as yours, but quad-core). I use the x264 veryslow preset and get between 2 and 3 frames per second, depending on the source. But since it's one of those MBPs with the defective dGPU, I can't really use it for anything else so it's basically...

Re: Slow encode... (or do I just need a new computer?)

short version: I'm getting roughly 5fps encoding speed, for a 1080p file (converting from mpeg to h264). Is this as fast as I can expect on my system You can use a faster x264 preset at the expense of compression efficiency. Laptops will slow down the processor speed when they get too hot. And they...

Re: Need Help (HEVC 10bit)

Your options string is malformed. Use a semicolon as the separator not a slash (and remove spaces). Not sure how you're supposed to format deblock settings using the API, best to just omit it.

Re: Subtitles Unreadable when created with handbrake

If that's indeed the issue, remuxing HandBrake's output with Mkvtoolnix should zlib-compress the subtitles automatically, IIRC.

Re: Subtitles Unreadable when created with handbrake

Well, at least the subtitles are there, as per the log. It could be the case of ZoomPlayer expecting zlib compression and HandBrake muxing the subtitle tracks uncompressed. Have you tried VLC to play HandBrake's output?

Here's the log of converting from the MKV file where the Subs are displayed.

Can we get a real log please? This is 30 seconds only. You can set the encoder preset to ultrafast, we don't care about the video track here.

Based on the output bitrates and duration, the file appears to be just under ~19 MiB (~20 MB).

Re: Subtitles Unreadable when created with handbrake

The log you provided shows multiple subtitle tracks in the output. What is causing you to claim the subtitles are gone? Most of them are empty or near-empty (the largest one has like, 38 packets). PotatoCarl, can you show a screenshot of the tracks tree for the main title in MakeMKV for your Golden...

It's the MP4 chapter track -- if you don't want it, uncheck "create chapter markers" in HandBrake.

Re: Hardware encoding an option?

You can use the "Intel QSV" encoder in HandBrake -- the video encoding itself will be hardware-accelerated, but audio, as well as video decoding and processing will still be CPU-based.

Re: Subtitles Unreadable when created with handbrake

AnyDVD has a "rip to folder" feature too, you don't necessarily need to use MakeMKV. Don't use "rip to image" as it won't necessarily remove all forms of structure-based copy protection and may fail to encode via HandBrake.
