Re: cannot encode at all avio error

-30 means the output location is read-only; do you have write permission to "/Volumes/Seagate Expansion Drive/Movies/Music & Lyrics/", and do all the folders in that path, all the way to Music & Lyrics, exist (HandBrake won't create them for you)?

Re: Unnecessary Downsampling of 96 kHz and 192 kHz Sources

We should add those samplerates eventually. Not sure about PCM passthru, but since it has no bitstream metadata (unlike Dolby and DTS codecs), FLAC works just fine to re-encode PCM.

Re: Ending up with best file size for DVD?

Also you should use VBV with a maxrate of about 15000 Kbps (15000 also works for the bufsize I guess), in order to not exceed read rates of a typical DVD drive.

Re: subtitle Burn-In

Yeah, this disc is just authored weird. Foreign Audio Search behaves normally, it's just that there's a track with packets flagged as forced, but in this case, not the right track at all. Not really something that can be worked around easily (or at all, TBH).

Re: subtitle Burn-In

This is really relevant to me, but I find different behavior with the Forced than what Rodeo says. When I was trying to convert my movie, when the subtitles tab said "Foreign Audio Search", "Forced Only" checked, and "Burned In" checked, I got NO subtitles. When I used the same settings, except unc...

Re: True-HD/DTS-MA - Does Handbrake Transcode the Lossless Audio or the Lossy Core?

I see. So, when going from Dolby TrueHD to AC-3 @ 448kbps I'm starting with the lossless audio data. So, I'm not technically "transcoding" in that case as there would be no generational loss by reencoding a lossy track to another lossy codec. Erm, AC-3 is lossy, so there will be a loss. But you're ...

Re: True-HD/DTS-MA - Does Handbrake Transcode the Lossless Audio or the Lossy Core?

TrueHD is decoded losslessly (except the Dolby Atmos extension, if present). For DTS-HD, the core is decoded -- HandBrake 1.0.x has partial support for the XLL HD extension, but I don't think it gets decoded 100% losslessly. When using DTS-HD Passthru, the full track is passed through without modifi...

Re: Windows Live Movie Maker Captions missing after conversion

For one thing, that's the wrong log. We need a scan log of the MovieMaker source -- you scanned HandBrake's output instead.

Because main audio tracks on Blu-ray are usually either of TrueHD or DTS-HD.

Re: feeling like an idiot

Your source has no AC3 tracks, AC3 Passthru cannot pass through what is not there to being with. If you want to re-encode to AC3, you should use the AC3 encoder. Fallback from passthru to the corresponding encoder used to happen automatically, but the GUI stopped doing it when we switched to using l...

One day (no idea when), HandBrake will read the flag and automatically set up the rotate filter for you.

After you set your defaults, you need to close the configure default panel and click "reload defaults". Also unless you want to re-do it manually every time, you should save your settings in a custom preset.

Re: [Fixed] Advanced Settings Tab in WinGUI still has some problems

Even as a feature request, I doubt you'll find much developer interest, at least from the core team. Your best bet would be to find someone else to actually write a patch. The problem with two interfaces is that it takes time to implement, and time to maintain, and I'm reasonably confident I speak f...

The difference is way too small to be statistically significant, unless you maybe ran each encode 100 times and average the resulting encoding speeds.

Re: Advanced Settings Tab in WinGUI still has some problems

Isn't it time to nuke the advanced tab anyway... No. SC I respectfully disagree. The advanced tabs provides some widgets to set some x264 options as a convenience for the user, which is nice, but: - people who aren't advanced users should stick with libx264's presets as much as possible - advanced ...

Re: HEVC: No greyscaling, no crf-value in metadata

Then the solution is to check our documentation, find the build instructions, and build your own HandBrake. There are many dependencies, but it's otherwise a fairly straightforward build.
