Re: Subtitles from Bluray are still not recognised

[As a coincidence, it has been exactly one year since the last post to this thread...] I was wondering whether there is any change in the status for subtitle support for Bluray disks. I know 0.9.5 does not support them; how about the development versions? Is it on any developer's tray to add suppor...

Forced subtitles and multiple languages

This question will probably show how little I know about forced subtitles, but I really need to know how to handle this. Take, for instance, The Return of the Jedi. The DVD I own has two audio tracks (English and Spanish) and four subtitle tracks (English, normal and "alien"; Spanish, norm...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion

On to the subject of Chapters: After ClownBD processes all of this into a MT2S file what's left, chapter-wise is a txt file with the chapter stop points. that's fine. I'm not sure if clownBD puts the chapters in the MT2S file or Handbrake doesn't recognize it...be that as it may. How can i get at l...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion

I just finished the whole process for my first movie. It worked perfectly: I ended up with a single MKV, weighing 5.85 GB, which includes the main soundtrack (AC3), director's comments (AAC) and both English and Spanish (soft) subtitles. I used the mkvmerge header editor (Ctrl-E) to add / fix the la...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread; after some days of studying, I am now encoding my first BluRay movie. I wanted to share my workflow with you, because it seems (to me) to be easier (although it is 100% Windows). My goal is to convert a BluRay movie into an MKV file with H.264 video, sou...

I use DVDFab HD Decrypter (http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm), it is free for its basic functionality.

Re: Large difference in size for encoded movies

Got it, thanks for the replies. The guide talks about four levels for denoising (and I quote from http://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/PictureSettings#filters ): "Custom" will allow you to enter parameters for the denoise filter in a text field. "Weak" is acceptable for general use. Too...

Re: Large difference in size for encoded movies

Welcome to the world of CRF. Some movies require the encoder to use a higher bitrate to give you the quality level you have selected. Fantasia is an old movie, and if I remember correctly my encode came out larger than average as well. Well, I don't mind some movies ending up larger than others, an...

Large difference in size for encoded movies

I am using the High Profile to encode my movies to MKV. I usually leave sound as AC3 (passthru) except for things such as Director's Comments, which I convert into AAC. My encoded movies end up in the 1 GB size range. Today I followed the same procedure with Fantasia and ended up with an almost 2 GB...

Re: Unable to scan Pixar's Up!

I recently converted the same movie, Up, into an MKV. You probably know this already, but here it is anyway: it is much easier to first rip the DVD to the hard drive, and only then process it with HandBrake. Something else: I had to run my rip of Up through FixVTS, otherwise HandBrake was unable to ...

Re: How do you handle related media?

Since you're using mkv one alternative way to do this is to encode it to two mkv files, then join them using mkvmerge (from mkvtoolnix, http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/ ). This works fine, the only problem is that the chapters are then arranged in two groups (EditionEntry) which is lega...

Re: How do you handle related media?

The resulting VOB only shows one audio track (English), one video track and no subtitles track. Audio is English all the way through; I don't know if this is because it happened to be the first audio track in both original shorts, or because it was the only audio track in common between them (havin...

Re: How do you handle related media?

Hey mduell, I did notice the change in your reply while I was typing mine... Anyway, I tried concatenating all the VOBs and feeding them into ffmpeg; the only thing I added was a -scodec copy , so it would pass-thru the subtitle tracks as well. I must confess I had serious doubts this would work; do...

Re: How do you handle related media?

Interesting, mduell... So you are saying I should do this with the VOBs, before using HandBrake. Let's say Part1 has three VOBs: VTS_01_{1,2,3}.VOB; and Part2 has four VOBs: VTS_02_{1,2,3,4}.VOB (I used VTS_01_* and VTS_02_* to be able to differentiate both parts, they would most likely both be call...

How do you handle related media?

I would like to hear how people handle media that is somehow related. I am talking about at least two cases: What everyone refers to as joining , stitching or appending movies. A good example could be any of the three Lord of the Rings movies in their extended edition versions, where each movie is a...

Encoding never stops

Let me start by thanking the whole HandBrake team for such a wonderful product. It is really priceless! Sorry if this seems like a duplicate subject. The point here is that I do have an activity log, and the files themselves are reasonably small to be sent if it will be of any use. My config: Window...

FixVTS worked wonders, thanks Bling2Ming! A new weapon for the toolbox... I am at this very moment converting Up into an MKV file.

Thanks again!

No title found, ripped with DVDFab6

Windows XP SP3 DVDFab 6.2.0.5 HandBrake 0.9.4 VLC 1.0.3 I use DVDFab to rip the main movie off my (legally owned, of course) DVDs and feed them to HandBrake. This has always worked well, but now I found one DVD that breaks my process. The DVD in question is UP (the Pixar movie). I ripped the main mo...

Automatic cropping and picture size

Here is a real use case that I would love to hear opinions on how to handle. Maybe this is basic stuff... I am converting my From the Earth to the Moon DVDs into Matroska files, so I ripped them with DVDfab. Each DVD has two long "movies" in it, that I converted with Handbrake 0.9.3 into h...

Multiple subtitles

Hello, this is my first post. Let me start by saying I have fallen in love with Handbrake. It is an amazing piece of software with all the best qualities of open source. I live in Chile and deal mainly with DVDs with two or more soundtracks and two or more subtitle tracks (English and Spanish in bot...
