Sorry friend but you are WRONG. MPEG-2 is included in the mp4 specification as a format that plays in mp4s and hence all players that are specification compliant (most of them). Sorry, but *you* are wrong. Thanar specifically said you cannot mux mpeg-2 and AC3 into an .mp4. This is entirely accurat...

I just, while casually scrolling down, noticed something very familiar ... http://mediafork.dynalias.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=156 Yes you did notice something familiar. I'm all for lossless encoding of videos. I've suggested a few methods but none of them have been loved by other members here. I'l...

MPEG-4 Audio Lossless Coding (ALS)

I'm not going to go into a lenghty tirade about this so I'll keep it simple. The MPEG-4 standard allows for lossless audio conversion so could this feature be added into MediaFork for better audio conversion. Playing lossy audio through high-quality speakers honestly doesn't sound great so this woul...

I think the dev team needs to sit down and clearly identify what MF/HB is and what it is intended/expected to do. In this case, I do not know how we can be any clearer. "MediaFork is a GPL'd multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 ripper/converter." As it is a ripper/converter should not the sof...

Excuse me... what is this? If I am reading correctly, you are talking about an mp4 file with a mpeg2 video track and an ac3 audio track? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have the feeling that this SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK! There is no way to put mpeg2 video and ac3 audio in an mp4 file. That simple. Furth...

Interesting, but again, how do you turn them on/off on the iPod on the fly? At the moment one wouldn't be able to turn them on/off using an iPod. We shouldn't have to hold good software ideas back simply because Apple is taking their time implementing proper mp4 features; in time Apple will impleme...

Re: ...

Jeez, I didn't think that everyone would take this the wrong way... Allow me to try to explain. Why not just use Disk Utility to create an ISO of the DVD itself? I mean, that's 100% lossless, and you can preserve the multiple audio tracks and subtitles perfectly! And you don't even need MediaFork fo...

Most of my "main title only" extracts are 3-5 gigabytes in size. Using Handbrake (and now MediaFork) with a very high bitrate or 70+ constant quality I end up with an .mp4 that's usually between 1 and 2 GB. No, there's no way it could be lossless, but I sure can't tell the difference from the origi...

Direct DVD MPEG-2 extraction into .mp4 container [With Poll]

[UPDATE] Seeing as there are some people who have been totally against this idea and others that would love to see it I have added a poll so we can get a better idea of how wanted it actually is. DVDs use the MPEG-2 codec so would it not be possible to add a feature to MediaFork so the movie can si...

Chapter functionality is part of the MPEG-4 format and can be implemented by some programs.

I too would like to see this feature as it would make the resulting files even more similiar to the original DVD.

I didn't realise that the process worked like that. There is very little need for such a feature if it makes the file size larger I guess. I asked for this feature because when I use a set bitrate when encoding DVDs the quality is always worse than the DVD I used to begin with. A better feature to f...

I personally don't mind if it can't work on apple devices and applications (iPod, AppleTV, Quicktime). There are other more advanced softwares that can handle it. I've spent some time researching it a little so I'll type my findings below; apparentely MPEG-4s can handle a variety of different subtit...

I probably didn't explain it well. I mean similiar to a DVD so you can do something in the software (press a button or through a drop-down menu) to select the subtitle stream that the user wants to play. This way they do not play on default but can be turned on at will.

Lossless Encoding

I'll admit before I begin that I know next to nothing about the technicalities of encoding for either video or audio; I just like the best quality possible so if there's any reasons this won't work or cannot be done please state so. This is just a thought but seeing as DVDs are encoded in MPEG-2 an ...

Subitles that can be turned On/Off

Handbrake, and thus Mediafork, can burn subtitles into a video track while encoding but would it be possible to have a subtitle track that can be turned on and off so they can be viewed if the user wants to view them? And if this can be done perhaps the ability to incorporate multiple language subti...
