Re: DVD to Wistia - Suggestions?
It doesn't? What is it doing when you input a bigger frame size than is being served from Vegas?

Re: DVD to Wistia - Suggestions?
I received clarification on that. 1800kbps max is the max that 540p will be encoded at at their end. I can upload a bigger file

Re: DVD to Wistia - Suggestions?
I don't believe I'd be encoding at those high bitrates for SD footage on Wistia. Their guide indicates max bitrate of 1800kbps for 540p IIRC. I don't know if that means they want me to upload at that rate, or if that's the asset they create.

Re: DVD to Wistia - Suggestions?
Thank you, wasn't even aware of Happy Otter script until now; I will look at it.
I think definitely I was getting better results using Vegas2Handbrake than I was using MainConcept in Vegas alone. To me, the video looks sharper when using HB.

Re: DVD to Wistia - Suggestions?
Thanks for the reply. Clarifying question:
When you say to frame serve to HB, but upscale in Vegas, what do you mean? In Vegas, shouldn't the project properties match the media on the timeline? In this that would be the 720x480, interlaced (lower field first), etc?

DVD to Wistia - Suggestions?
I have several NTSC, 4:3 DVD videos that I need to convert and upload to Wistia and try to maintain as much quality as possible. I learned that Wistia doesn't support 480p, so the next step up for them would be 540p. Based on my research I learn that the video would need to be 960x720 as that is the...

Re: Converting DVDs to H.264 files for sale
Regarding source, for some DVDs, the original project files were lost, so all I have is the DVD to use as a source.. For others, I do have the original NLE project files so I can encode from those edited source AVI files.
I'll try those presets you mentioned and see how I make out

Converting DVDs to H.264 files for sale
Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible: I have to convert some standard definition NTSC (720x480) 4:3 DVDs to individual H.264 MP4 files. So customers will have the option of buying the tangible DVD, or a downloadable product format. Question is, what settings would yo...

Re: Upgraded to 1.0 - where did my custom presets go?
So I take it the only way to get the presets back is to just go through that XML file and make notes of all the settings and set them up again in the new HB?

Upgraded to 1.0 - where did my custom presets go?
I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. Had 3 custom presets in the previous version of handbrake. I upgraded to 1.0 and notice that my custom presets are gone. Where can I find them, can I re-import them somehow? Edit: I just found the user_presets.xml in the appdata/roaming folder and it contains the old preset ...

Re: Best settings for DVD to MP4 for customers to buy and download
? I'm not creating a DVD. The DVD already exists. I want to make quality MP4 files of each chapter on the DVD and make these new MP4 files a downloadable option for purchase. So customers can choose to order the tangible DVD, or they can buy the downloadable version.

Re: Best settings for DVD to MP4 for customers to buy and download
rollin, yes, obviously, that's what I want to do. What I'm trying to determine is what settings I should use in Handbrake to achieve the best video. Example, the DVD video is 720x480. What would be the optimum resize settings, what should the anamorphic be set to? What should the modulus be set to? ...

Re: Best settings for DVD to MP4 for customers to buy and download
Thanks for the reply. No subtitles with any of my DVDs. The audio on the DVDs is all AC3. When you say retrieved, you mean downloaded at the time of purchase? If so, I have no idea. I'm sure some will buy with tablets and download either via their wifi or cellular if perhaps they are traveling, who ...

CPU best practices for encoding?
Are there any best practices or settings, like BIOS or elsewhere for getting the most encoding power possible from my CPU when encoding to x264 format? In other words, should certain settings be enabled/disabled for getting best performance? I have an Intel Core i7-2600k if that helps on an ASUS P8Z...

Re: Picture tab: Size isn't saved correctly in preset
Yes it is better than using the dnxhd intermediate, however once in HB, you still need to use a preset for the x264 encode. I guess what I am asking is if there should be any modifications to the handbrake settings in your tutorial when using the Vegas2handbrake method as opposed to the DNxHD interm...

Re: Picture tab: Size isn't saved correctly in preset
No, I selected Source Max Size as instructed in musicvid's youtube video. I will try custom instead. Thank you.
BTW, musicvid, do you have any suggestions for changes to the handbrake settings in the newer version, or is everything still basically the same?

Re: DVD to YouTube -- best practices?
Youtube is a royal pain in the butt, I agree. To get the watch in high quality option, I always upload in MP4, 640x480 with a bitrate around 1000kbps. The normal quality is horrible though as you know. What you can do is just add an annotation at the beginning reminding the viewer they can click the...

Recommended preset for taking samples from DVD
Hi, I'm new to HandBrake and am a bit lost in the settings. I'd like to take segments of DVDs and save them as MP4 (which will later be saved as FLV) to use as samples on a website. My question for those with more experience is - what preset or settings would you recommend for saving footage from a ...
