downmix to dolby 5.1

Description of problem or question: my audio system doesn't handle DTS so I downmix my audio to Dolby Digital 5.1. If I have a choice of DTS7.1 HD-MA or DTS5.1 should I start with the master audio and let handbrake drop the two extra channels? Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable): n/a Han...

Yes, that's one of the tradeoffs of the quick hardware encoders, the efficiency (quality for size) is crap.
Thanks for confirming that. I guess I have to stick with 3fps and remain patient.

Re: Intel QSV x265 quality setting

On average they're the same, CRF just adjusts QP throughout the video depending on whats going on based on a psychovisual model. Other than on average, there's no equivalency. Any idea why CRF isn't available with QSV? If I start with an HEVC profile and just switch to Intel QSV I seem to get files...

Great but I'm still looking for "guidance on what QP setting will approximate the CRF setting". ie, CRF22 = QP___???

Intel QSV x265 quality setting

Description of problem or question: I'm trying to use the Intel QSV encoder on my laptop to encode x265 video. I'm curious why the quality setting switches from CRF to QP when I move from x265 to QSV. Also, I'm trying to find some guidance on what QP setting will approximate the CRF setting. IE, If...

Re: How to schedule queue to run at a certain time?

I know this is two years old but I can't find an answer & I have the exact same question. Encoding a bdrip pretty much ties up my computer for six to eight hours so I'd really rather do it at night.

Is there really no way to set up a queue and get it to start at a scheduled time?

Why use the "6 channel discrete" instead of "dolby surround"?

Thanks.

Much appreciated.

I'll give it a try and see if I can move back to a official/stable release.

Thanks.

OK, well at least this suggests that I'm not doing anything wrong.

BTW, I'm using MediaInfo 0.7.57.

Thanks.

VFR produces files with constant frame rate

I encode ota recordings that are broadcast at 59.940 frames. To get my encoded file to play back smoothly I've had to encode it at 29.97 frames and I use Peak Frame Rate so that duplicate frames can be discarded. I've noticed that if the source was 1080i I end up with a much smaller file and that it...

svn 4450 v production release

I've been using an svn for a while and just noticed there was a release earlier this year. Is there somewhere I can go to find out if the current stable release is newer then this older svn I've been using?

Thanks.

John, did you get a chance to look at those files? Were you able to reproduce and then hopefully eliminate the stutter?

Thanks,

Re: trouble detelecining 720p hdtv captures

One suggestion would be to create and supply a short clip that I can use to reproduce the problem and then maybe I can improve our algorithm some more. I did, but here it is again. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16279671/loci.s03e04%20-%20but%20not%20forgotten%20%28archive%29.zip Hopefully you'll reproduc...

Re: trouble detelecining 720p hdtv captures

Well, my revised opinion after watching a few more episodes is that while I'm happier with the result it really isn't great. I'm still ending up with quite a few duplicate frames (and therefore lost frames too). I hate the idea of going back to 29.97fps but the herky-jerky motion is disappointing. I...

Re: trouble detelecining 720p hdtv captures

I just watched the first encode of one of these 720p 59fps files and it looks very good. There are a couple of places with handbrake has duplicated a frame (and I'm assuming dropped a good frame) but it's hardly noticeable. I can certainly live with this result and I greatly appreciate the approxima...

Re: trouble detelecining 720p hdtv captures

John, great result on my three minute test file. I've now queued up a couple of full episodes and I'll encode over night with the SVN. I'll report back once I have a chance to review the result but I'm very hopeful at the moment.

Thanks for the help!

Wow, I can't believe I'm bumping a thread that's over two years old! But... I see that nobody had any luck with second samples I put up. remux without transcoding

Is there an option in handbrake to passthru the video instead of always transcoding? I'm trying to do two things so that my files can be use on my iPad 1) change the container to m2v, and 2) add the AAC soundtrack. I believe that the video component of my files is compliant for playback on the iPad....

Re: Remux MKV to iTunes for iPad

I really would like to keep the 5.1 DTS/AC3 mkv's as the main format for remuxing to the PS3 and/or iPad/iPhone/iPod/iTunes. You will need to include an AAC track as well in your encodes, since the iPad doesn't support either DTS or AC3. For remuxing MKV to MP4, Subler can do it (on Mac). Other Mac...

encoding from dvr-ms files

Is it possible to get handbrake to encode from dvr-ms files? I have recordings of OTA broadcasts that are not DRM encrypted. I want to reencode these into x264 and would like to avoid having to go through the extra step of transcoding into another container before encoding.

Thanks.

Re: trouble detelecining 720p hdtv captures

Sorry it's been so long seems I've been back here. What I meant by "another from end" is a front end to the x264 encoder. I've been having success encoding these files using ripbot264 and a filter it uses called "decimate". It's worked with everyone of these files & the other...
