Re: Call for help: VideoToolbox and constant quality
The nightly crashes after/while scanning the source. However - Version 1.3.1 (2020010400) does not let me select CQ when selecting the H.264 (VideoToolBox) encoder. Just updated to - Version 1.3.3 (2020061300), and it also does not let me select CQ with the VideoToolBox encoder. The system is a 2011...

Re: Need help choosing a CPU build.
You really could go either way with the i7 or the E5 systems. I think if you're going to go with the E5, you might want to consider something like FreeNAS and PLEX. That way, where ever you have a data connection, you have your library of media. You can still use your portable storage for when you d...

Re: copying a DVD-ROM
I don't think that Handbrake is the tool that you want to use to copy a DVD-ROM. Handbrake is designed to convert video files from one format to another format, not disc copying.

What are these tags? I've noticed them when I've had to mux in subtitles, but noting seems to come up when I select them.

Re: Possible Passthru of Atmos Audio
DTS and Dolby are two different companies that do things in two different ways. I don't know if the specs are out for Atmos, in a manner that is applicable to independent developers like the Handbrake crew, so that would have a significant impact on whether or not it can be implemented in Handbrake....

Just to specify, that's the Film tune in the Filters / Denoise / NLMeans options, and not in the Video / x265 / Encoder Tunes.

Re: Suggestions for x265
The workstation is beyond laggy with the encodes going so it's a bit of pain to grab the log right now. Upgrade to an OS with a working scheduler. Having all the files working under one file system seems to make things easier. So Windows 7 Pro 64bit remains as the workstations OS. Thanks though. SC

Suggestions for x265 settings
Hello! So now that it's getting a bit chilly I figured I'd heat things up with encoding a bit. I grabbed the nightly a few days ago and started with some grainy movies. The first is the Criterion Le Samourai, which after ~20 hours (1.9 fps), looks great! But it's a bit bigger than I was hoping for. ...

Re: Ripping Blu Ray collection to the same specs as iTunes store HD movies
I'll add my two cents, and recommend using MakeMKV to pre-rip your source files. This is beneficial because it lets you fine tune your encodes without putting unneeded wear and tear on your optical drive. It also lets you rerun the encode if there is an issue with the final file. Case in point, ther...

I think it's best to benchmark using not setting up custom settings and just using a built-in preset.
Also, with people using different verisons of HB, you can expect different results with identical hardware/OS.
