Re: HB not "auto-cropping" from makemkv file
So I noticed this in the SVN log: r2870 | jstebbins | 2009-10-05 18:25:46 -0700 (Mon, 05 Oct 2009) | 5 lines Changed paths: M /trunk/libhb/stream.c fix VC1 I-frame detection in ffmpeg_is_keyframe The pattern was incorrect, so we were pretty much always starting on a non-I-frame when creating preview...

Re: HB not "auto-cropping" from makemkv file
Hmm, 2.9.8 seemed to work with Burn After Reading BD, and it is in VC1. Autocrop and preview worked, watchmen and condemned did not.

Re: HB not "auto-cropping" from makemkv file
Is there a different version of mkvtoolnix or another mkv tool I should try? Some people (me included) have had issue with HandBrake and MKVs created with Mkvtoolnix 2.9.8 (right now I can't remember what the issues were, but I don't think they were related to cropping and previews). I've reverted ...

Re: HB not "auto-cropping" from makemkv file
I am having the same problem. I am on 2851 64 bit on snow leopard. I am using anydvd hd on a VM to rip, then I am using eac3to on the VM, then using mkvtoolnix v 2.9.8 on mac to make MKV, and the cool thing is now I have chapters recognized in HB this way. I went to mkvtoolnix because tsmuxer is not...

This looks resolved in 2288.

Re: [2263+] Large file size with CQP
Looks like 2288 resolved the issue, I noticed the mention of fixing the framerate in the svn log and gave it a whirl. Also, seems like progress is also fixed.

Re: [2263+] Large file size with CQP
I can probably make a small sample m2ts to test with, if you need it.
I also compiled version 2284 and had the same result as 2271.

Re: [2263+] Large file size with CQP
One more thing, I also noticed on the 2271 encode of T3, that the encode finished when the progress bar showed about 60%.

Re: [2263+] Large file size with CQP
There is an easy answer to that. Time. This isn't an issue where I just take the log and post it. I have to compile 2 different versions and run test, then post, several hours. I don't mind taking the time, but in the past I have done that only to get a quick response like "This is a known issu...

[2263+] Large file size with CQP
I noticed after upgrading from 2245 to 2263 that my final output file sizes were way out of wack. I did BR backup from Zack and Miri using CQP 59%, apple tv preset. This is what I always do. File size came out to 8.5 Gigs, and bitrate of around 10000kbps. After some other tests, I went up to 2271, s...

x264 Speed Improvements & Preview
Over the last months I have been watching development and building from SVN. I have noticed updates in SVN log about x264 speed bumps. Each has made a difference, however I just went to 2147 and WOW. When I first started ripping blurays, with I think 2101 or so, I was getting about 18-20fps encode a...

Re: DTS-HD to AC3 for AppleTV
First off, I am a newbie so please forgive my ignorance in advance... I have been using HB 0.9.3 and after some experimenting and then reading in the forums for advanced settings, I've been able to convert several DVDs to my AppleTV and have been quite pleased with the quality. I just got a Blu-Ray...

Re: Bluray Subtitles
Thanks. I've added subs sucessfully using muxo I'm only doing what I call the forced subs anyway. For those that are interested for apple tv you have to put in some blank subtitles info is on the muxo forum. I couldn't get muxo to work on HD rips from bluray, I think it won't handle files over 2gb....

Re: DTS-HD to AC3 for AppleTV
So what if I don't want the best DTS decoding? Will -libav do it? that is what I used and was fine. I did not buy Nero or Sonic. I'm a bit command line phobic so I actually used Eac3toGUI in addition, but all I did was choose 640 bitrate and libav decoding for AC3. I then remuxed in Tsmuxer and pas...

Re: DTS-HD to AC3 for AppleTV
you don't need nero or arcsoft absolutely--I dont have them either--but I think they are recommended for incremental increase in DTS decoding quality (?) vs what is prepackaged with Eac3to (I think)...I dont remember specifics of this though. In the end, I don't think I could tell the difference pe...

Re: DTS-HD to AC3 for AppleTV
I use Tsmuxer and Eac3to successfully...I bought Wall-E bluray without realizing there was not a separate surround AC3 track. Tsmuxer will extract the DTS core if you choose to demux, I then ran the audio only stream through Eac3to (exact audio copy) to AC3 and remuxed in tsmuxer and worked great.....

Re: Problems Converting Blu-Ray to Apple TV
Questions: 1. How long should it take to scan a normal movie file (M2TS)? 2. How long does it take roughly to completely encode to ATV at default settings? 3. Is there something I am forgetting to do? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks for your time! Allan Just isn't going to work wit...

Re: Problems Converting Blu-Ray to Apple TV
ragboy, I'm curious, what resolution you are encoding your videos at. My appletv jerks too much with 1280x720 @3000kbps... You mentioned that they look great, so I'm wondering what you are doing... 720p, but you have to make sure it is at 24FPS. My encodes are anywhere from 3000kbps to 5500kbps, an...

Re: Problems Converting Blu-Ray to Apple TV
I've never liked the idea of forcing the encoder to maintain a known average bitrate unless file size is of the most importance. I haven't done it with DVDs, and I certainly wouldn't do it with HD sources. I think its best to let the encoder decide what is necessary to encode the video, and allow i...

Re: Problems Converting Blu-Ray to Apple TV
Good information on the audio codecs, I just assumed the new svn build would not handle truehd or dts hd like .9.3, so I will try to decode without tsmuxer.

Re: Problems Converting Blu-Ray to Apple TV
I would not recommend using ABR with HD sources like bluray or hddvd. Instead lower CQ to 55-57%. Curious, why would you not recommend? I def would rather use CQ, but didn't want to experiment with every movie, and if it went over, take the time to reencode, you know? I reencoded The invasion over ...
