error in wiki documentation on Decomb custom settings
Hi,I've spotted in error in the wiki docs for Decomb custom settings - the custom settings parameters shown are in fact missing a parameter (mask filter mode). So if you input custom Decomb settings as per the docs, this missing parameter means that all subsequent parameters you put in are in the wr...

Re: VERY long encode times for ripped blu-ray
as pointed out before, the image size increases enormously from standard-def DVD to 1080p HD, you've got roughly 6 times more data, so it will take roughly 6 times longer, and your resulting file will be about 6 times larger. also, depending on what you're encoding for, you may decide it's not worth...

Re: how to improve detelecine?
anyone? i think the problem is that while detelecine/decomb detection of combed frames works pretty much flawlessly on live action material, it often fails on animated material due to the likelihood that only a very small portion of the frame is actually moving. i guess i need some method of making ...

Re: how to improve detelecine?
just to confirm, as well as the occasional combed frames, there are still some stuttering sections with a duplicated frame approximately two times a second here's the log for a test encode from this source ### CLI Query: -i "C:\Users\Public\Documents\DVDFab\FullDisc\GHOST_IN_THE_SHELL" -t ...

Re: how to improve detelecine?
forgot to mention - although the thread i saw didn't suggest that the "strict breaks" setting could be anything other than 0, 1, or -1, i did try setting it to 2 to see if that "turned it up" at all, but it didn't make any difference. i'm still getting occasional combed/blended f...

how to improve detelecine?
i'm trying to encode a dvd rip of an anime which has been hard telecined with a repeating pattern of 13 blended frames (being 2 adjacent frames blended together with combing) followed by 1 solid frame i started with the detelecine set to default, with fps set to "same as source", but this ...

forced subtitles
is it just me or... when ripping a movie with forced subtitles, they do not then become forced in the resulting output MKV. you still have to enable the subs in the player when watching. i think that if "forced only" or "foreign audio search" is selected then the forced flag shou...

[Not Planned] detachable toolbar (allows lower vertical res)
i know this one's come up before, and i know the response is likely to be the same as for previous posts... nevertheless i'm going to say it i run my system in 1024x576. this is the largest resolution that users of old-fashioned large widescreen CRT sets can use, that has the correct aspect ratio. a...

Re: why so different?
i'm doing that now, but it takes many hours to encode on this old thing. the episodes are all from the same season, there are 22 episodes in all. there's nothing fundamentally different visually in the different episodes, it's a sci fi so they're all pretty full on with effects, action, etc. the oth...

why so different?
i've been encoding a bunch of TV series episodes from DVD, and mid way through the encode, the PSU on my HTPC failed (with a bang and an enormous spark!). it was a couple of weeks before i could replace it and continue the process. i've now fixed the system and continued with the encode process, usi...

Re: Ultimate Profile?
i'd just like to add that i've found this thread particularly useful in putting together a new "better-than-high" preset for myself. as my HTPC is pretty slow (Athlon 3000), i average around 3.5fps on a HQ encode, so testing settings is a slow and laborious process. some of the discussion ...

Re: very minor video quality issue - what setting(s) to look at?
thanks, that sounds like it could help - it does seem to be worse when it's slightly grainy footage of an otherwise plain smooth surface. a lot of the sets for star trek next generation episodes cause this. i'll try re-encoding some clips of stuff i've already done so i can compare the two.

very minor video quality issue - what setting(s) to look at?
i've increasingly become aware lately of a very minor, but visible, shimmering issue with video encoded at high quality settings. i'm using the "high quality film" preset, with the bitrate upped to 2000. the effect is visible on areas of low detail, i usually notice it on areas of sky, or ...

Re: handbrake crashes entire computer during encoding
yeh, i'd definitely be looking at overheating install SpeedFan (it's free, google it) and monitor system temps. if you configure it correctly you can make it save a log of system temperatures as they are monitored, so you'll see exactly how hot the components get before it freezes. my money is on CP...

i agree with the original post, it took me several minutes of google/wikipedia/etc to find an answer, absolutely pointless and quite frustrating.

[Fixed] WinGUI unexpected behaviours (several)
v0.9.3 XP SP3 not bugs as such, but definitely unexpected behaviour to be looked at... all of these reproducable every time under any circumstances, as far as i can tell 1) presets: when the default preset is loaded on startup, advanced encoding settings are not loaded with it - going to the "a...
