HandBrake Snapshot SVN3154

Postby HandBrake » Sun Mar 07, 2010 8:23 pm

This is a snapshot release of SVN revision 3154. It is not stable code. It is unstable (and undocumented) development code which will one day lead to a stable release of HandBrake 0.9.5.

But in order for that process to happen, it needs a lot more bug testing due to some major back-end changes within HandBrake.

Download it now. (No longer available)

If you find broken things in this snapshot--which you will--post a thorough bug report in our bugs forum.

Core:
  • Updated x264 to r1471-1144615
  • Uses x264-generated DTS (fixes "illegal render offsets" and hangs at the end of 2-pass encodes)
  • AppleTV preset tweaks. (Now uses VBV)
  • Bug fixes (Including issues with MPEG PS, Subtitle Scan, Out of Memory Errors)

Mac GUI:
  • Send Finished Encode to any Application

All Interfaces:
  • Point to Point Encoding. (Either From Second to Second or Frame to Frame)
  • Queue Editing. It is now possible to send a job back to the main window for editing.
  • The Quality Slider no longer indicates a percentage value. This value was misleading. It now shows RF only.
  • Added the ability to set Modulus for Loose Anamorphic and None
  • Many bug fixes and UI tweaks.

Known issues:
  • MacGui: There is a now known major bug in this snapshot which has been fixed as of http://trac.handbrake.fr/changeset/3155 where the MacGui will not warn you of an encode in progress or pending queue items upon quitting. It just quits with no warning. My fault and my apologies for letting this slipping through.
  • WinGui: Source button dropdown menu - DVD Drive Quick Selector is broken.

A full change log can be found on the Trac.

Reason: Add Known Issues and the no warning upon quit for the macgui.

This build will not quit when right-clicking on the dock icon and selecting "Quit" in OS X 10.6.2.

When you say that the quality slider no longer shows a percentage value because it was misleading, in what way was it misleading, is a smaller RF value better or worse in terms of picture quality?

It was misleading in that it didn't represent a percentage of the source's quality, and was also inconsistent between encoders.

Smaller value: better quality, but not in linear way. For example: level 2,5 is not 2x better than level 5. Is much more and file size a lot bigger and not predictable. I agree wiht the programmers about the choice to remove the percentage.

Attn: Fairly Major MacGui Bug in this snapshot!

Note this bug that exists in the macgui for this snapshot which has since been fixed.

When quitting the macgui you will *NOT* be warned if you are encoding or if you have pending encodes in the queue. My fault. Sorry for any inconvenience.
