Feature Request - Resume Encode after 1st pass

Postby poopdedoop » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:23 am

Hey everyone. I've been using HandBrake for sometime now in OS X and I really only have one complaint, but I'm sure it could be added (maybe)

would it be possible, to have an encode, resume after the 1st pass?

so for example:

Encode video 100% pass one
25% into pass two, power goes out
reload program, continue encode starting at pass 2.

I've had the power go out once this week, and my computer crash twice (and I've accidentally closed the program once) all while I'm encoding a video. I've had to restart my encode 4 times, and it's getting really annoying, because it takes so long. (roughly 20hours for a 1080p encode) If I wasn't having such bad luck this week it wouldn't be such a big problem but since i've been having bad luck this week, I've thought about the possibility of this feature.

You can do this now. Instead of running your 2-pass encodes using the 2-pass checkbox in HandBrake, queue up two single-pass ABR encodes at the same bitrate. In the x264 options for the first, add pass=1:stats=/path/to/write/stats/to.stats and then add pass=2:stats=/path/to/write/stats/to.stats to the second one.
